Our Story

Born and raised in Mississippi, now settled on the Virginia side of D.C., Gracious Me brings southern flair to Americana/ folk/ alt. country music. Her writing takes a literary, female perspective on the major connection points in life, and her soulful singing brings that perspective to life in song. She has performed live throughout the South and Atlantic regions.  The new album True to Life has made it into the Top 20 on both the Roots Music Report Folk and Contemporary Folk charts, with singles breaking into the Top 15 on the Roots Music Report Contemporary Folk Singles chart and the Radio Guitar One Folk Singles chart.  An award-winning songwriter, she has most recently been selected as an honorable mention in the 2020 Great River Folk Fest Songwriter Video Contest, as a performer at the 2020 Singer-Songwriter of Cape May Festival and Conference, and she was one of twelve finalists in the 2019 South Florida Folk Fest Songwriter Contest.  Gracious Me is focused on digging deeper with her songwriting, and she is sharing the results with audiences in her 2020 full album release, True to Life.

     Gracious Me has also expanded into a musical collective!  The Gracious Me Duo will be Gracious Me on original vocals and rhythm guitar with additional lead guitar and harmony vocals added by a rotating collective of friends.  Gracious Me and the Ingrates is a four-piece band to fully develop originals and a few covers.  Catch one of our versions soon!


     The first Gracious Me EP, Introducing . . . Gracious Me, was recorded at Rubber Room Studios in Chapel Hill, NC in August, 2015, and is available for purchase at CDBaby.com, for downloads at Amazon and iTunes, and for streaming on Spotify and elsewhere.  John Godfrey of The Troubadour Show (@TroubadourShow, www.troubadourshow.com) said "I only play the music I love, and I love this EP!"  He continued "Loved the EP, certainly won't be the last time I play a track from it on the show." The hosts from Way Out Radio's "Journey to Tomorrow" new music program (www.wayoutradio.co.uk) described Gracious Me's song "Warrior" as "an homage to a mum who always has your back." DJ Pat Stone, from the Pat Stone Show, declared "I love this folky Americana music, and her voice ... wow!  I was listening to this song ["You Don't Love Me Like You Used To"] with my eyes closed and it's a great song for slow dancing." The radio show For the Folk, hosted by Amanda Lynn Stubley, listed Gracious Me's track "You Don't Love Me Like You Used To" on the For the Folk Best of 2015 list! In 2016 Gracious Me released a jazzy Christmas tune, "The Naughty List," and in early 2020 she will release a full album of original music!

     Gracious Me's songwriting has been recognized in several songwriting competitions.  She has been a finalist in the 2019 South Florida Folk Fest songwriting competition and a finalist in the 16th AND 17th Rapunzel's Songwriting Competitions.  Her song "Warrior" was selected for the Women of Substance (WOS) Radio Podcast "Songs with a Conscience" 2019 series, and folk DJ Jon Stein selected "The Part of Me" for the Hootenanny Cafe's 2019 Halloween show.  Gracious Me's song "You Don't Love Me Like You Used To" has been selected for a WOS Radio 2018 Valentine's broadcast, and "You'll End Up On Your Knees Either Way" was selected for the WOS Radio Inspirational Playlist for April and May, 2016. She was a finalist in the 2015 Richard Leigh Songwriters Festival contest Country Division, where she had the opportunity to perform her song "I'm Fixin' To" for the festival audience. Her writing also won 2nd Place in the 2014 Richard Leigh Songwriters Festival Lyrics Division and received an honorable mention in the 2013 Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival Contest.
